ADT and Life360 Team-Up for Home Security
A partnership involving leaders in security and location-based services for families will expand mobile services in the area of personal security.
ADT, www.adt.com, and Life360, www.life360.com, have joined together to create co-branded mobile security applications for families. As part of the deal, ADT will invest $25 million into Life360 and receive minority ownership in the company. The money will be used to forge a $50 million Series C financing effort for Life360.
By combining efforts, ADT, a security and home automation provider, will help Life360, a location and communication app for families, to advance personal security solutions to the more than 33 million families using Life360. According to Arthur Orduña, senior vice president and chief innovation officer for ADT, “This partnership with Life360 fits within our innovation strategy to reinvent the idea of ‘security’ for our increasingly mobile lifestyles. It’s a perfect pairing as ADT and Life360 are both leaders in their categories that share a very similar vision and mission-to provide peace of mind to families.”
A way in which the companies plan to marry their resources is in the creation of a new mobile application utilizing features from ADT Chaperone, an ‘on-the-go’ personal security offering. The goal of this endeavor is to create access to ADT’s monitoring centers in order to reach police, fire, and medical personnel at anytime, any day.
Officials believe the merging of technologies by the partnership will provide families with the comfort of knowing they can simply press a button to check in on loved ones, instead of taking a break from what they are doing to make a call. In addition, it will allow for easy home automation to set such things as lights and door locks from their mobile phone.
