Gemalto Advances M2M

2/28/2012

At Mobile World Congress, Gemalto, www.gemalto.com, has made several announcements, including a new agreement with Sony Corp., www.sony.net, to develop globally compliant solutions for the growing NFC (near-field communication) market.

Specifically, the companies will work together to provide FeliCa—a contactless technology used widely in Asia for things like public transportation, event ticketing, and customer loyalty programs—on a global scale. Gemalto says it will incorporate FeliCa software technology into its 2012 UpTeq NFC SIM (subscriber identification module) product lineup, offering mobile operators and service providers a more comprehensive range of mobile NFC services globally.

Gemalto has also launched an end-to-end wireless connectivity solution for M2M services, including those that use NFC technology and/or stream content over 4G LTE services.

In fact, the company says its “advanced connectivity” solution offer will allow a 100% success rate for the download and activation of mission-critical applications by combining Gemalto’s OTA (over-the-air) platform with its Universal Integrated Circuit Cards. The solution has been tested and proved in the field through a number of LTE deployments.
