Analytics – The Road to Optimization
Levis shares his experiences and best practices to compete with analytics, requiring organizational support in the form of data, tools, and senior management commitment.

Analytics takes the general forms of:
    • Descriptive analytics – Analysis of historical data
    • Predictive analytics – Prediction of probabilities of future trends
    • Prescriptive analytics – Evaluate new ways to operate

UPS has gone through a long evolution in moving up this analytical hierarchy which required organizational commitment and significant process change. This presentation will show how UPS built upon a culture of engineering and quantitative analysis. Examples of the changed processes will be presented, as will lessons learned from the journey.

    Jack Levis, UPS

    The Open Data Initiative
Government data and voluntarily-contributed corporate data can feed new products, services, and jobs. The goal is to stimulate a rising tide of private-sector entrepreneurship that leverages data to create tools that help Americans find the right healthcare provider, identify the college that provides the best value, save money on their energy bills, keep their families safe by knowing which products have been recalled, and much more. The Open Data Initiative seeks to liberate data as fuel for innovation while rigorously protecting privacy.

Ian Kalin, U.S. Dept. of Energy

  • 10:05 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. Keynote

Gaming the Technology Sale is designed to provide volunteer attendees with a role-playing opportunity that steps through the technology sales process and, working with team members, devise appropriate strategies and tactics to achieve a successful technology sale.

What can a city do with a private fiber loop that can be used for business, closing the digital divide, and providing some competition with telephones, high speed data connections, and a cooperative attitude? How will this affect innovation and business in the city? You are about to find out. Pat Kennedy leads a discussion with several partners and special guests about the ways in which private fiber loops like Lit San Leandro are delivering resources that local businesses need to compete in the face of accelerating data requirements, hosting systems for delivering service products, connected campus, and cloud-based applications that are reshaping markets.

The Silent Revolution   From the Safety of Your Current Perch -- At Your Great Peril

This is the year for M2M to truly take off, right? Actually M2M has been taking off all around the globe and in multiple different markets for quite some time—it just might not be as evident to the naked eye. Look in the right places and you will see M2M fast at work changing the way we work, play, and live each and every day. Join our fireside chat with Daniel Obodovski and Laurie Lamberth. Laurie will discuss with Daniel his upcoming book 'The Silent Intelligence' examining the roots, future, and limitless opportunities of M2M.

Moderator: Laurie Lamberth, Laurie Lamberth & Associates
Daniel Obodovski, M2M evangelist and author of the forthcoming book "The Silent Intelligence"

Surely the intelligent application of M2M can enhance productivity and profitability for corporations, and there is little doubt some M2M solutions will drive growth in personal consumption. But, if these twin targets dominate the M2M agenda, we will continue to miss the market. Companies that are listening closely understand that economic stability and the ability to create mean a lot to people in redeveloping and developing markets -- and their populations are growing. It’s time to tune in to the larger drivers of the M2M opportunity.

Preventing Driver Distraction in Fleets   Engaging Consumers in Healthcare

Fleet vehicles and their drivers are fraught with hi-tech distractions. Safety monitoring apps, national coalitions, and stiffer penalties are only deterrents. Effective fleet solutions require realtime monitoring for vehicle, train or bus operators using wireless devices. Only onboard monitoring can stop violators and alert the proper authorities. This session will run through some examples of how connected devices and M2M are at the heart of curbing distracted driving within your fleets.

    Scott Schober, Berkeley Varitronics

There are numerous paths for engaging the consumer in healthcare these days (either directly or indirectly), ranging from consumer-focused devices, to clinical-based platforms, to even targeted apps. There has never been a better time for bringing healthcare to the consumer. Our panel outlines the steps to success and addressing the future of healthcare technology.

What is the Data Telling Us?   The Next Generation of Automotive Apps

Today’s broad connected devices are feeding us with data related to our homes, cars, and even our loved ones. And while having access to all this data is nice, it ultimately begs the question: What is the end result? Will the data enhance our lives? Can the data truly become a catalyst for modifying our behavior? Can data drive us to make better, more informed decisions? Hear some enlightening discussions around these topics and more as our panel debates the true role of data for our connected personal lives.

Don’t miss this engaging panel discussion on how to best prepare for the next generation of in-vehicle apps. Our panelists address such topics as:

    1. New technology, such as augmented reality, being integrated into vehicles
    2. The ability to harness 4G LTE connectivity to offer in-vehicle content sharing and streaming options
    3. The ways in which content integration will drive the revolution of the head-unit by consolidating the instrument cluster with the infotainment cluster for a more informative and usable driving display
    4. Consider lessons learned from other verticals

M2M Made Easy   Big Data Collection and the Role of Telematics

As M2M expands its reach into a multitude of verticals, solution providers face the challenge of navigating through the challenges of connecting and managing their solutions. Choices are abundant when it comes to carriers, and each has its own specific value. However, choice is often followed by complexity. We dive into the integral role MVNOs play in the simplification of M2M, allowing solutions to be managed centrally and cost-effectively without sacrificing any choices.

    John Horn, RACO Wireless

With the race to uncover new insights that deliver competitive advantages, Big Data has become a major buzzword in today’s M2M environment. Telematics technology in particular is reshaping the way businesses can proactively improve employee safety while also influencing corporate sustainability programs. Join this session to learn more about the role of Big Data when coupled with telematics.
