Chunka Mui Keynote Speaker:
Chunka Mui
Author and Managing Director of the Devil's Advocate Group,

Chunka Mui is a best-selling author and business advisor on strategy and innovation. He has a distinguished track record of foreseeing the strategic uses of emerging technologies and helping innovators capitalize on the resulting opportunities. His first book, Unleashing the Killer App: Digital Strategies for Market Dominance (Harvard Business School Press, 1998), co-authored with Larry Downes, was named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the five best books on business and the Internet. His recent book, Billion-Dollar Lessons: What You Can Learn From the Most Inexcusable Business Failures of the Last 25 Years (Portfolio, 2008), co-authored with Paul B. Carroll, was named one of the best books of 2008 by Inc. magazine. Chunka’s articles have appeared in numerous magazines and journals, including Harvard Business Review, Chief Executive, Directors and Boards, and CIO Insight.

Chunka’s books and articles are based on extensive research and experience as an advisor to both upstart and market leading companies. Chunka is the managing director of the Devil's Advocate Group, a consulting group that helps management, boards of directors, and investors stress test their business strategies. He also serves on the board of directors of Viewpoints Research Institute. Viewpoints, under the leadership of computing pioneer Alan Kay, is in the midst of a five-year effort funded by the National Science Foundation to create a large-scope-and-range operating system in 3-4 orders of magnitude less code than current practice. Chunka was previously a managing partner and chief innovation officer of Diamond Management and Technology Consultants and a vice president at Computer Sciences Corporation. He holds a B.S. degree in computer science and engineering from MIT.

Bruce manages the strategic direction of AMI products for GE Digital Energy. Bruce also spent a number of years at Elster in AMR/AMI Product Management and as Director of Marketing and Product Management.

Dominique Blanc, ABB Robotics

Dominique has over 15 years experience in leading technology and product development within ABB. He has been in the forefront to develop and launch a new remote monitoring solution in 35 countries.

 

Adam Burns, Intel

Adam is responsible for Intel’s M2M program as part of the Embedded and Communications Group, defining M2M opportunities for new and existing embedded applications.

Hamish leads the Mobility Core Products group at AT&T. His mobility portfolio includes connected devices and service delivery platforms, mobile devices, connectivity and security products, enterprise video and messaging.

 

Kent Dicks, MedApps

Kent has over 26 years experience in the technology industry. He has been at the forefront of developing Wireless Remote Patient Monitoring using cellular technology (mHealth), and speaks on the topic around the world.

 

Dallin Doney, ANT Wireless

Dallin has experience with wireless protocols and physiological monitoring, allowing him to effectively merge sustainable, progressive functionality with the demands of the sport, fitness, health, and wellness markets.

 

Robin Duke-Woolley Beecham Research

Robin has over 30 years experience in the telecom/IT industry as a director and general manager in international vendor companies, in start-ups, and as an independent consultant.

Kim brings more than 25 years of experience in high technology. Prior to deCarta, he was President and CEO of Pinnacle, CEO of StorageWay, and corporate VP at Lucent Technologies.

 

Hod Fleishman, GreenRoad

Hod leads partnership development and drives GreenRoad's success in implementing data-based safety programs that yield substantial cost and risk reductions to fleets and insurance companies.

 

Dwight Gibson, Ingersoll Rand, Connected Home Solutions

Dwight graduated magna cum laude from Howard University and earned an MBA from Stanford University. He played a key role in bringing the Schlage LiNK home-management system from the drawing board to market.

 

Henry Holtzman, MIT Media Lab

Henry Holtzman is an expert in RFID, consumer electronics, and human-computer interfaces. He is Chief Knowledge Officer and co-director of the Digital Life research consortium at the MIT Media Lab.

 

John Horn, T-Mobile

John has been with T-Mobile for more than eight years. He has specifically focused on developing its M2M program and is working with its European partners on M2M programs that can be supported in the U.S. and Europe.

 

Ralf Hug, Trajectory Group

Ralf is president of the Trajectory Group, a strategic business consulting firm with deep industry experience in automotive telematics, M2M, GPS navigation, LBS, wireless and consumer electronics.

 

Kevin Johnson, Intel

Kevin is responsible for strategic planning, business, and technical development, advancing Intel’s products and solutions into the smart home, smart enterprise, and smart infrastructure industries.

Praveen was vice president at Lucent Technologies, vice president of engineering at Riverstone Networks, and CEO/Founder of Pipal Systems. He is a veteran of five successful start-ups, including Redback Networks, Global Internet and ZeitNet.

 

Felix Marchal, Telit Communications PLC

Felix Marchal has about 20 years of experience in the semi-conductor industry. He has worked in various sales positions. Before joining Telit in 2006, he was Sales Director EMEA at Telit's competitor Wavecom.

 

Dave Marsh, Rand McNally

David has more than 20 years of experience in the navigation field, most recently in charge of the design and development of the award-winning Rand McNally Intelliroute TND line of GPS Navigation products for long-haul trucks.

 

Dan McDuffie, Wyless Group

Dan runs the North American division of Wyless, and brings nearly 20 years of experience in telecommunications and Internet. By leveraging both global and national partnerships, he is responsible for growing the Group’s US presence.

 

Letha McLaren, iControl

Letha leads strategy and development for iControl’s Energy Management solution. Letha was previously GM of Energy Management and Applications at Landis+Gyr and Director of Software Product Management at Cellnet Technology.

 

B. Scott Muench, Tridium

Scott has more than 20 years experience in building automation and controls. He has held many positions at Tridium, and currently fulfills a variety of roles from corporate sales technical lead, to business development.

 

Olivier Pauzet, Sierra Wireless

Olivier Pauzet has been working in the wireless industry for the 10 years, joining Sierra Wireless from Wavecom. He served as Sales Director, and was responsible for the Program Management Group, Personal Communications Device Business Unit.

 

Casey Pittock, Wellcore

Casey is a recognized leader in Personal Emergency Response Service. He was founder of TelCARE Systems and served for seven years as a Lifeline executive. Casey has advised numerous start-ups and early stage companies serving seniors.

 

Michael Roach, NAVIGON

Michael’s career of more than 18 years has spanned a variety of consumer goods, OEM integration activities, technology and product development as well as sales leadership and channel management.

 

Robert Policano, Mercedes-Benz USA

Robert oversees an ever-expanding offering of in-vehicle “connected” services for Mercedes-Benz in the U.S., collectively known as the Mercedes-Benz mbrace system.

 

Dr. Jeffrey Smith, TIA

Dr. Jeffrey Smith is Chief Technical Officer of Numerex and Chairman of TIA TR-50 Smart Device Communications Standards Committee. He founded SensorLogic, Inc., and has served or serves on several boards of high tech companies.

 

Maurice Thompson, Verizon Wireless

Maurice is responsible for identifying and enabling device solutions to access the Verizon Wireless network by using the new Open Development device specifications and testing processes.

 

Brian Walsh, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Brian has 25 years experience in marketing, business development, product management, and partner management for multinational corporations in the IT & Telecommunications industries.

 

Wayne Ward, Sprint

Wayne Ward is vice president of emerging solutions for Sprint. Ward was named to lead the company’s newly formed Emerging Solutions unit in October 2009, with responsibility for developing M2M and mobile computing solutions.

 

Bob Zimmer, Frito Lay, Inc.

Bob will be leading the efforts with the National Fleet GPS project. He will continue to develop the GPS solution and build a National strategy to enable route, asset, and fuel efficiency.
